How to inject?

At-a-glance instructions:

Label of pen

Check your pen

?

Check the name and coloured label of your pen to make sure that it contains the right type of medicine

?

Pull off the pen cap. Check the medicine inside is clear and colourless

Screwing needle

Attach a new needle

?

Pull off the paper tab

?

Screw the needle straight and tightly onto your pen

?

Pull off both needle caps and keep the outer needle cap

Pressing push-button

Check the flow

?

Turn the dose selector to select 2 units

?

Press the push-button all the way in while holding the pen upright with the needle in the air. The dose selector returns to 0

?

A drop of medicine should appear at the needle tip. This removes air bubbles and gaps, and ensures the medicine is flowing properly

Twisting dose selector

Select your dose

?

Make sure that the dose selector is set at 0

?

Turn the dose selector to select the number of units/ dose steps you need to inject

?

You can turn the dose selector forwards or backwards to adjust the dose

Inserting needle into skin

Inject your dose

?

Insert the needle into your skin (if you are unsure where to inject, refer to the downloadable Injection Guide or your Instructions for Use)

?

Press and hold down the dose button until the dose counter returns to 0

?

Leave the needle under the skin for at least 6 seconds – this will ensure that the full dose has been injected

Removing needle

Remove the needle from
the pen

?

Lead the needle tip into the outer needle cap

?

Once the needle is covered, carefully push the big outer needle cap completely on

?

Unscrew the needle and safely throw it away?

?

Then put the pen cap back on

Correct needle disposal

To reduce the risk of injury to others, pen needles should be disposed of in a puncture-resistant container, such as a “sharps container”, according to local regulations. Check local recommendations for discarding medical waste.
